Power rests on the kind of knowledge that one holds. What is the sense in knowing things that are useless? They will not prepare us for our unavoidable encounter with the unknown. Don Juan Matus, Wheel of Time
We are on the outer reaches of what is known as the Orion arm of a spiral galaxy, situated in a universe of over 100 billion galaxies, a number itself that boggles the imagination! Yet we seem to have other concerns here on planet Earth, the type of preoccupations which don Juan Matus called the “deep concerns of everyday life.” For example, some of us may be occupied with: “He is not going to come through on the deadline, I just know it. It’s a well-known fact that everyone has trouble working with him.” Or: “She’s starting to dress better and pay more attention to her hair!! She’s cheating on me!!!! I just know it!!!” Or: “I just found out that he went bankrupt again! Thank God I am not as bad as he is!” “Did you know that she (fill-in-the blank)? I am sure it’s true because I read it in the news.” If we are focused on repeating what we “over-hear,” our teachers said, it means we are under-perceiving. They said that engaging in this kind of hearsay, as a speaker, or as a listener, begun in early childhood, when, vying first for the attention or agreement of our parents, we spoke ill of or allowed others to do so against our brothers and sisters. Allowing this now as adults means that we don’t really know ourselves. “Know thyself,” reads the Delphic oracle, and “Nothing in excess.” That is the task of the navigator of awareness, the invitation for the being who wants to dream, rather than merely repeat the lowest level of what has been said and done before. If we are willing to turn our attention away from trying to figure out what others are doing, and instead, make the effort to know and accept and lovingly take care of ourselves, we can see, and learn—“Ah, I get fearful when I am asked to work with someone new.” Or “I get energetically charged and agitated around issues of ‘fidelity,’ something I learned from my uncle, whose wife was said to be unfaithful.” Or, “Gosh, I wonder why I get so worked up over my brother’s financial ups and downs—How am I doing with my own finances?” “Or, Gee, I don’t really know if that news article is the whole picture of that person’s life—so why am I so ready to believe it, and to pass judgment?” As our teachers described it, the moment we get curious about ourselves is the moment we can start to climb out of the darkness of what they called the “gargoyle river”—the river of judgment, of deflecting responsibility, of being externally driven—and instead start walking the Milky Way band—the road of stars above us, where there is a lot more light—the path of dreams, of living a joyful, creative life. “If you think you already know everything,” they said, “and are in a position to judge, then mysteries, dreams, opportunities to open, to grow—they could all hit you on the head, and you would miss them. Get curious instead, get interested in what’s going on in the mirror, and you will see a portal into infinity.” In this Tensegrity workshop we will compassionately track some of the trails we have walked, and the stories we have voiced, or silently agreed with – about our brothers and sisters or peers – in our lives; and aided by the Wolf Form of magical passes, we will dream new, strengthening tales, and walk new trails, of greater joy and learning in our interactions. According to astronomers, our closest neighbor galaxy is the Canis Major Dwarf galaxy, found in Canis Major, the constellation of the Big Dog who walks near Orion the Hunter! According to the shamans of ancient Mexico, our wolf brothers and sisters are extremely close to us, and can interchange awareness with human beings; they are here with us as teachers, calling us, with their cries to the moon and stars, to remember our stellar origin, our interconnectedness with all beings, and to walk a more enhancing road: the heart-centered path of deep loyalty to the well-being of the ‘pack.’ Accessing this ‘pack’ energy within us, we can tell – and live – strengthening stories about the many ‘packs’ – family packs, work packs, school packs, project packs, etc. – in which we run in our daily lives. Early morning self-awareness practices, day and evening ‘pack’ walks under the desert stars, and more will be experienced—all to entice and support the curiosity, courage and discipline needed to walk consistently on the star path of appreciation of ourselves and our fellow travelers in life.
