What's Love Got to Do with it?

The notion of love has its tentacles intertwined with every aspect of our world. Although it holds such a prominent and pervasive role in our lives, it is widely misunderstood. Most people struggle to define love, let alone fully engage this magical part of life.

We use the term, "love", to describe everything from a romance to friends... from a good meal to a great book... from our children to our pets. We conflate love with sexual attraction, romance, intimacy and affection.

In the early days, love/marriage has been used as a currency exchange. "My kingdom for your daughter." "My daughter's dowry for your son." These transactions still play a large role today. Sugar Daddies/Mommies… trading sex and faux relationships for income/security. Hooking up, smashing, exchanging intimate access to our bodies for a brief respite from our pain.

All the while, the more we seek what we believe to be love, the lonelier and more separated we become. From a seers’ perspective, love, as we currently know and practice it… is a selfish act.

Love: Perception vs. Projection

Our relationship decisions are largely driven by multiple biological, emotional and social influences. These shaping factors control much of the automatic feelings, urges and decisions which we nestle under the umbrella we call love.

Biologically we are reflexively driven to procreate in order to prolong the lineage of our species. Emotionally, we yearn to be loved and accepted. Socially, we judge ourselves as well as being judged by others by our romantic and sexual scorecard.

Fueled by these animistic urges and need for conformity, we perceive people as we desperately need them to be. This "love trance" causes us to ignore all else in favor of the superficial traits we project upon them.

These projections are futile efforts in order to end our loneliness, desperation and despair. Is it any wonder that the divorce rate is so high? Sooner or later we tire of carrying on with these projected delusions and awaken to the telltale question of; who is that in my bed?

Love, Energy & Sexual Foraging

Carlos Castaneda and Taisha Abelar advised us to take a 7 year break between partners, fully recapitulating the last one before taking on someone new. That is because it takes 7-8 years to release the residue created from a sexual relationship. And if you follow this suggestion, when you do… YOU FEEL IT! So, how much accumulated residue have you gathered through your sexual foraging? How much of your energy has been wasted satiating urges?

It's obvious, therefore, we should seek to apply a measure of impeccability in this important area of of our life, so that we become, as Castaneda suggested, a miser with our energy, even in our most intimate of relationships.

Seers' affection is the art of removing oneself from the “love trance”, to see beyond the tonal facade in order to give and receive that which we most crave: unconditional love.
